Mindfulness is a strange concept, as it requires one to be completely calm and declutter your mind, yet try to see the world as a whole. One must set the body at rest and allow the mind to express itself…. haha, who am I kidding. This may be the spiritual definition of mindfulness, but my own practical version is me staying still, breathing deeply, and if I’m feeling lucky, closing my eyes (I know, pretty bloody hard).

I have found it helps to be comfortable, so for me that usually means being outside, preferably near the sun or on my bed. You could go full Avatar mode and cross your legs, but for me putting my feet under my arse and sitting on them is far more comfortable. Then you can close your eyes or maybe stare into the distance (honestly that’s kind of creepy, just close your eyes).
Breathe in through your nose and out through your mouth. After about 5 to 15 minutes of this, if you aren’t in a peaceful headspace and at one with the world around you, something is wrong and try again or try another sitting position.
Another favourite way to be at peace is to lie down on some grass and just look up at the clouds. There is something relaxing about the sky with its soft hues of colour and wispy little clouds floating gently on a summers breeze. Wow, I’m nearly falling asleep just talking about it.
At its essence mindfulness means something different to everyone: sometimes, it might consist of being mindful of someone else’s issues or situation. For me it is just a convenient label for the process of self-betterment.
So please be mindful, find peace and chill out!!
